Beef Teriyaki: A Classic Japanese Home Recipe

Beef teriyaki is a popular Japanese dish that is loved for its sweet and savory flavors. This classic home recipe is easy to make and perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. Follow these simple steps to create your own delicious beef teriyaki at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of beef (sirloin or flank steak works well)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Start by slicing the beef thinly against the grain. This will help tenderize the meat and ensure it cooks evenly.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, garlic, and ginger. Add the sliced beef to the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the beef is cooked through.
  4. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the remaining marinade and simmer until it thickens into a sauce consistency.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and toss to coat it in the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce is caramelized and coats the beef evenly.
  6. Remove from heat and serve the beef teriyaki hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Enjoy your homemade beef teriyaki with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends!
