Authentic Szechuan Spicy Tofu: A Vegetarian Delight


Are you looking to add some spice to your vegetarian meal repertoire? Look no further than authentic Szechuan spicy tofu! This dish packs a flavorful punch with its combination of bold spices and rich textures.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger, minced
  • 2-3 red chili peppers, sliced
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of Szechuan peppercorns
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess water, then cut into cubes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and add the garlic, ginger, and chili peppers. Cook until fragrant.
  3. Add the tofu cubes and stir-fry until they are golden brown.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, Szechuan peppercorns, and vegetable broth.
  5. Pour the sauce over the tofu and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry. Add it to the pan to thicken the sauce.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
