Authentic Steamed Spare Ribs with Honey Soy: Sweet and Savory

Steamed spare ribs with honey soy sauce may sound like a complicated dish, but it’s actually quite simple to make at home. This traditional Chinese dish combines the sweet and savory flavors of honey and soy sauce, resulting in a mouthwatering dish that is sure to please your taste buds.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound spare ribs
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing the spare ribs. Cut them into bite-sized pieces and place them in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice wine, and cornstarch.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the spare ribs and toss to coat them evenly. Allow the ribs to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare your steaming setup. If you have a bamboo steamer, line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. If you don’t have a bamboo steamer, you can use a metal steamer or a steaming rack placed over a pot of boiling water.
  5. Once the spare ribs have finished marinating, transfer them to the steamer. Make sure the ribs are spread out evenly to ensure even cooking.
  6. Steam the spare ribs for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through. You can test for doneness by inserting a fork into the meat – it should easily slide in and out.
  7. Once the spare ribs are cooked, remove them from the steamer and garnish with chopped green onions.
  8. Serve the steamed spare ribs with honey soy sauce hot, alongside steamed rice or your favorite vegetables.
  9. Enjoy the delicious combination of sweet and savory flavors in this authentic dish!
