Tech CEOs call for broader computer science education in new letter

Much more than 500 notable people in enterprise, schooling, and the nonprofit sector are calling for governors and education leaders to update K-12 curriculums to let “every pupil in each individual college to have the opportunity to master laptop science,” according to a new letter posted publicly at https://www.ceosforcs.com/. The record of signatories involves numerous well known figures in technological know-how, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon founder and government chair Jeff Bezos, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft cofounder Invoice Gates, and Meta founder, chairman, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

“The undersigned dedicate our guidance by collectively producing work prospects for laptop or computer science students in each town in the United states of america, and in each and every sector, from producing to banking, from agriculture to healthcare,” the letter reads. “Many of us offer you internships to assist these students discover their profession pathway. Several of us have funded initiatives in CS training, to assist underserved communities. But there is only so much market can do by ourselves.”

“Now is the time for motion, and the stakes could not be larger. Alongside one another we urge you, for the sake of our students, our economic climate, and our nation, to operate together to update the K-12 curriculum, for each and every university student in each faculty to have the opportunity to discover laptop science,” it continues. Individually, some of the signers also expressed their support on Twitter. “Coding is 1 of the most valuable abilities a man or woman can learn,” Tim Cook dinner wrote. “It can open up new doors, jumpstart occupations, and enable large desires appear like achievable goals.”

“When I was 13, laptop or computer science altered the class of my existence,” Invoice Gates tweeted. “I was really blessed to have entry to a computer that early on. I hope this initiative will give each university student the similar chance.”
